In nearly 50 years of operation, the business has produced more than 13,000 vehicles , making it a significant manufacturer of railway rolling stock. Included in this proud record is the manufacture of 2,227 electric locomotives, most of which were built for Spoornet, a division of Transnet Limited which is the largest single transport company in Southern Africa.

The factory is purpose designed and built, for the manufacture, and refurbishment and overhauling of all types of rolling stock. This includes extensive facilities for static and dynamic testing to ensure maximum reliability of rolling stock, irrespective of rail gauge, climatic conditions and operating requirements.

The UCW Partnership has an expert engineering and design team, able to satisfy the requirements of the most exacting customers, including the systems integration of all rolling stock components. Designs are constantly reviewed and updated in order to meet the latest technological demands.

In addition, the company offers a full spectrum of services, including conceptual studies, estimating, procurement, project management, cost control, production management and commissioning.
