ABOUT UCW
Union Carriage & Wagon (UCW) was established in 1957 as a partnership between Commonwealth Engineering of Australia with the Budd Company of the USA and Leyland. Construction of the factory at Nigel commenced in June 1958 and occupation took place in January 1959.

Health, Safety and Environment Commitment

UCW Management and staff are committed to securing a safe work environment for all stakeholders. Of equal importance remains the safety of our product in the operation throughout the rail network environment in which it may operate. We strive to uphold and adhere to the regulations of the National Railway Safety Regulator Act 16 of 2002, as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.

Vuka! Ke Nako: Stop.Think safety awareness and improvement campaign in October 2010. The campaign is aimed at reviving safe work practices and aide in attaining zero safety incidences.

The campaign's slogan Vuka: Ke Nako: Stop.Think means 'wake up, it's time to stop and think'. This is an all-encompassing initiative which is hands on and solutions orientated.
